FAQ's

Hopefully you will find the answer to your question in this section. These are the most frequently asked questions we have had over the years. If you don't find the information you are looking for just email with your question.

1. Who/What is the FedEx Ski Club/Team: For these answers go to the main menu and click on FedEx Ski Club or Ski Team and in the blue area on the left hand side.

2. Who is eligible for membership in the Club: Employees of FedEx Corp or any of the FedEx companies(ie FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Services, etc).

3. What do I need to do to become a member: By paying $25.00 annual dues. We will collect the dues at the first ski week you attend for the year.

4. Do I have to be a member to go on the trip: Yes, you have to be a member(or a guest of a member) to go on the ski trips put on by the club. If you are a FedEx employee you may not be a guest of another FedEx employee(or another airline ski club member), you must become a member(we don't consider the $25.00 dues a hard ship if you can afford to go on the trip in the first place).

5: Can I bring a guest: Each member is allowed to bring one guest per trip(as long as they are not another FedEx employee or other airline employee that is eligible for membership in their own airline ski club).

6.What is the cost of going on a trip: We will break this down into components. The components you need to consider are 1.airfare, 2. lodging, 3. Ground transportation, 4.lift tickets, 5.food, 6.miscellaneous .
Airfare: This all depends on where you live and where you are going. When looking for good airfares, just don't look at one airport. It may be a lot cheaper to go into a airport that is a little further away but a lot cheaper. One example is what happened to us a few years ago. We were headed to Jackson Hole. It would have cost us $500.00 airfare to go into Jackson Hole. We checked out the other airports that were within a reasonable distance from Jackson Hole. We found that if we flew into Idaho Falls, the airfare would be $230.00. Since it was only a two hour drive to J.H. we grabbed it. The difference in airfare payed for the rental car and some of our lodging. This is not the first time we have done this. So shop around when looking for good airfare. You may also consider using are pass privliges on other airline. The price is better but it does come with risks. You made be bumped for revenue passingers. You may be delayed for a day or more(or you may get on all the flights you want). Just have a back up plan if you go on pass. $300.00 - $500.00 would be a good range to budget.
Lodging: There is a wide range of prices here depending on what type of lodging you want. There is the budget motels, the mid-priced hotels, and the luxury hotels. There are also condo's. The cost will also depend on how many people will be sharing the room or condo. Budget about $300.00 - $400.00 per person for a decent place for a five day week.

Ground Transportation: There are two aspects here. One is for those who will have a rental car and one is for those who won't. For those who want to have a rental car, depending on the size of car and the number of people splitting the cost it, it can be fairly cheap. A full size four door car will run you about $200.00 for the week. For those of you who don't rent a car, you will probably go to the ski area by van or bus. The closer you are to the ski area, the cheaper it will be. Check out the websites of transportation companies in the area you are going to.
Lift tickets: Will run you about $50.00/day Some areas will be a little more expense, some will be a little less.

Food: There will be food at some of the parties so you can make that your dinner. Most lunches, dinners, breakfasts(If you eat breakfast) are up to you. Figure about $100.00-$200.00 for the week.
Misc: There is a $75.00 registration fee for the week, and what ever else you decide to buy or drink. Figure $50.00 for the rest(not counting the registration fee).

Total: $1000.00 give or take is the range for most people to figure on when budgeting for a trip.

7. Do I have to stay for the whole week? No, you may stay for as long or short as you like.

8. Does the club make all the arrangements for me? No we don't. We will provide you with all the information on the trip, the area, the discounts and where to call. But you are responsible to make you own arrangements for getting there and where you are going to stay. We will help you in anyway we can. We will try and coordinate rides and roommates for those who want the help, but the final choice of who you ride with and stay with will be up to you. While the club may offer to help you with transportation or lodging, all financial matters are your responsibility. The only exception to this is on the international championships trip. On the International trip(and only the international trip) you pay the lodging funds to the club and we make the arrangements. You are still are responsible for getting to the destination point and everything else.

9. What do I get for the $75.00 registration fee? You get admission to all the parties(3) NAASF puts on during the week. Depending on the area(but quite often)a lunch on the mountain, the ability to buy lift tickets at discount, food at the parties. The fee is mandatory if you want to register for the week. If you don't register, you don't get discount tickets, the lunch on the mountain, and free entrance to the parties. It is $20.00 per party if you don't register.

10. Why should I go on a trip with the ski club? If you don't like to pay prices that are as high the peaks we ski on, come with us. We receive great discounts at the ski areas we go to. We discount lift tickets, special pricing at specific lodgings and at restaurant in the area. We don't pay retail on the big ticket items of the trip. 11. Who is NAASF? The North American Airlines Ski Federation. It is basically the airline ski league. All the major airlines of North America are members. NAASF is the group that sets up and runs the trips we go on(except the international championships). It is also the governing body that sets the rules for the races the ski teams participate in.

12. Who is IASF? The International Airlines Ski Federation. This is the governing body of the international airline championship or WAC(World Airline Championships). IASF organizes the ski week and runs the championship races. Both Alpine and Nordic races are contested

13. This question I found amusing when first asked. "I don't ski, but can I come on the trip anyway." The answer is yes, you can come on the trip if you are a member or guest. I would wonder why you would want to come on a ski trip and not ski, but you are more than welcome to come. Most major ski areas are not located near a major metropolitan area, so day trips are not a realistic option. The towns are small enough that you can see everything in a day or two. We are usually on the slopes from 0900 to 1500(or there about), so you will have to find something to do during that time for a week. If you like solitude and just love to wonder around, it's not a bad area to be in. But if you are board easily, this is not a trip to go on.
